Asserting His Independence

Holding their own bottles... Is that Step 1 of phasing out Mommy?

It's funny how all these baby milestones are both exciting and a little bit sad at the same time. These little guys are learning something new and perfecting tricks every single day. And while it's wonderful to see and be a part of their exciting new achievements, it also makes me wonder how did we get here? Just last week I was a huge, uncomfortable pregnant lady. Then a few days ago these guys entered our world and fundamentally changed every last piece of it. And just yesterday they were impossibly tiny little newborns, unable to even support their own heads. Now look at them! They'll be 6 months old on Friday. Half a year old. How did we get here?

All I Can Say...

...is that 5 poopy diapers in one morning must be some kind of record.

Efficiency

OMG, how cute are they?!?!?!

New Hats

My uncle, David, (I'm not allowed to call him 'Uncle David') is a bit of a renaissance man. At our wedding, he not only played all of the ceremony music, but he also made the bouquets and boutonnieres, fixed my sad little programs, and did a thousand other little things that I was too frazzled to realize at the time. Among his many talents, he apparently knits too. I sent him measurements of the boys' heads a while back and just got these in the mail today!

New hats!

Mom, why are we wearing hats when it's 80 degrees outside?

They're a tiny bit big, but I assured David that at the rate these boys are growing, it will be no time before they fit perfectly. And it will be just in time for the colder weather.

Thanks, Uncle David! :P

What Big Eyes You Have

Joseph has discovered faces. His new thing is to reach out and explore with his hands those features that have been staring, oohing and ahhing at him all this time.

This is also why I can't wear my glasses for long with these guys. They've gotten a little too good at snatching them off my face.

Oh hi, Mom!

Joseph is 5 months, 10 days old.

Chopped Liver

This is the third day in a row that I've made it to the gym (yay!). And I'm trying not to take it personally, but when I drop off the boys at the nursery I can't help but feel that they are entirely too happy to see the backside of me.

No matter how beastly and cranky pants they are at home, every time I hand them over to the nice ladies in the infant room, they are nothing but charm and huge smiles. Where were those smiles for Mommy??? Then when I pick them up and ask how they were, all I get is that they were maybe a bit fussy for, like, 5 minutes but little angels other than that. Tuesday when I got Luke, the lady handed him over and he was still staring at her and giggling like a little boy in love. Really, guys?? Really?

I can't tell if they just love the nursery that much or if those ear-to-ear grins are their way of saying, "Thank God! A new face to stare at - FINALLY!" Either way, I guess I shouldn't complain because these 2 hours a day that I get with the gym membership are life savers some days. And if they're happy, I'm happy.

Most days I'll maybe exercise for 30 minutes. The other hour and a half are spent in the whirlpool or taking a nice, leisurely, steamy shower, a rare luxury at our house these days. Then in those last minutes, I come to the couch area in the locker room (I love this gym) and pull out a book or catch up on my internetting like now.

I love, love, love being at home with my boys, but decompression is good too.

Luke and Daddy

Two very happy boys...

Luke is 5 months, 4 days old.

Mix Up

OK, I guess I can see why people might have trouble telling the boys apart. When I was flipping through this picture quickly, I thought I was holding Joseph. Nope, that's little Luke.

Sorry, buddy!

Here's Joseph with Mimi & Mr. Mac.

Sick

I suppose I should be thankful that we lasted until 5 months old before they caught their first colds. However, two sick babies and one sick mama - yep, they shared with me - makes for an absolutely miserable week.

And as if sleep weren't awful enough right now, their poor little congested heads is making it that much harder. So when Joseph finally passed out in the swing in the living room, Luke and I retired to the bedroom so as not to wake him up.
